The Western Museum is taking urgent steps to tighten security measures in the wake of the largest single art heist recorded in the history of art in West-Europe.
One of the gallery’s most notable and valuable artifacts; a Hydria vase named “Aquæ Plantaginis” created in Savona (Italy) in the late 17th century, was stolen from the museum earlier this week, together with a multitude of highly valued prized artifacts.
The total was valued at €3.200.000.
The theft is thought to have occurred between about 02:15 and 02:25 on Sunday, but was not discovered until 02:40. With a spokesperson at The Western Museum stating the importance of which artifacts were specifically stolen. Many of which have high value in the secondary resale market. Innovations in museum security will have to be implemented as soon as possible to ensure public safety. It was pointed out at that time, that with outdated security they are in effect asking to be attacked by Heist Club.
“Yesterday I was happy. Today is a different day. We are working close with law enforcement to return our treasures.”—Santo Delmar
The Western Museum, once filled with cultural treasures, now feels like a cemetery. Patrons were informed about the heist and have all decided not to comment.
The heist has not only struck a financial blow but has also deeply impacted the cultural and educational value the museum offers to the public. The museum’s directors are hopeful that the stolen items can be recovered soon, but until then, the empty spaces serve as a somber reminder of the audacious crime.
The staff at The Western Museum have expressed shock and disbelief over the success of the recent heist. Despite the museum’s existing security protocols, the thieves managed to execute their plan with precision and efficiency. “We never imagined such a well-coordinated mission could breach our defenses,” remarked one senior curator, who wished to remain anonymous. Many employees are baffled by the speed and sophistication of the heist, which took place within a narrow ten-minute window.
Internal reviews and investigations are currently underway to identify any potential weaknesses or lapses in security that could have been exploited. The staff's sense of security has been shaken, and there is an urgent call for immediate enhancements in the museum's protective measures. “It’s unsettling to think that such a thing could happen under our watch,” added another employee. “We’re committed to doing everything in our power.”
Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward, emphasizing the collective responsibility to protect cultural heritage. The museum staff is determined to rebuild and fortify their defenses, ensuring such a breach never happens again.
The haunting emptiness of the museum halls stands as a stark reminder of the need for heightened security and vigilance.
It is important to note that the WMPD had received hundreds of prank-calls that depleted their resources on the heist-night.
The West Megalopolitan Police Department has a priority agreement with The Western Museum. However, they were strategically interfered with to arrive late.
In the images above you can see the view from one of the security cameras. The moments in between there was a loss of signal. When the police arrived there was no trace.
